Cafe Beats, a 4,000 sq. ft. restro café in Rajkot, explores what it means to truly belong to a place through local materials and vernacular design. We worked with the existing structure, using orientation, natural light and shaded spaces to create a comfortable environment.
Terracotta became the defining material, used across walls, pots, screens and details, complemented by scraped granite flooring.
The Gujarati otla inspired the entrance, with stepped seating, a lily pond and arched openings creating a welcoming threshold.Spaces like Gup Shup Gali, Chuski Chowk and Baithak were designed as informal gathering spots inspired by the character of a traditional village street.
Handcrafted elements, earthen pots, bamboo and local materials bring warmth and a strong sense of place.Black graphic interventions by artist Shavish Gara add a contemporary layer, balancing the earthy palette without making it feel rustic.
Warm, indirect lighting, greenery and shaded pathways complete a space that feels rooted, informal and constantly evolving.
